2018 Greyhound Adoption Expo & Puppy Farm Tour

Dog Days
Dog Days

Please join MGPS for a fun day at The Greyhound Adoption Expo & Puppy Farm Tour. Fred is a dog hauler who brings MGPS greyhounds from Florida and Kansas. This event will be held at his puppy farm.

Linda Jensen was a great friend to racing and to adoptions--we would not be getting dogs in the northeast if it were not for her dedication to both. She did not see racing and adoptions as "taking sides" but promoting and celebrating the whole life of the racing greyhound--I was honored to be her friend and I learned much about greyhounds, racing and adoptions from her. I know some of you had such a relationship with her as well. This picnic honors her life and helps to keep greyhounds coming to all of us in the northeast on a regular basis. We are fortunate to have Fred, Carlos and our suppliers who work to bring dogs to us--I know that some groups in other areas of the country are not as fortunate and are having real trouble getting greyhounds. Its important to support this picnic to help with all of the expenses involved in transporting our precious cargo with care.

Fred has 25 to 30 3 and 4 month old puppies!!! and if we are lucky and the mom delivers on time, we may see newly delivered puppies. We will have a great BBQ, fun run--which was a huge success last year--vendors and naming rights of a very special puppy (more details to follow).

Tickets are $15.00 and include the Puppy Tour, Fun Run, great BBQ, vendors and so much more!

Any questions can be directed to Linda Lyman at lelyman7@verizon.net

Picnic donation is $15 and can be made through PayPal or on the day of the event. PayPal account will come up as "patty.comerford@yahoo.com"

Please go to the Facebook page 2018 Greyhound Adoption Expo & Puppy Farm Tour and like to keep updated on the event.

Maine Greyhound Placement Service has a fully serviceable veterinary clinic on-site to meet the needs of the hounds in our shelter that await adoption. We call it simply, The Greyhound Clinic. With this state-of-the-art clinic we are able to provide spay/neutering services, dental work, vaccinations, microchipping, heartworm/tick testing, blood, urine, and stool analysis, and so much more. For those greyhounds that are coming in to our shelter, having the clinic at the ready tends to make their stay with us a shorter one and less stressful as we are able to address their medical needs quickly and efficiently without the dogs ever having to leave the MGPS campus. It is a pleasant 1 to 2 minute walk from the actual shelter to The Greyhound Clinic building.

Dog breeds other then greyhounds? Yes, we see them, too!

The Greyhound Clinic provides high quality yet affordable spay/neuter and dentistry services not only to the greyhounds in our care but to many other breed specific rescues as well. Despite our name, The Greyhound Clinic does not discriminate and we are more then happy to be able to help all of our canine friends on their way to eventual adoption.

How about cats?

Of course! In fact, it would probably not be an exaggeration to say that we see just as many cats here at The Greyhound Clinic as we do greyhounds. The reason being is that we have networked with several of Maine's largest humane societies and provide most, if not all of their spay/neuter and dentistry services for the dogs AND cats in their shelters. We work closely with a number of cat shelters including one that works strictly with feral cats. Our outreach is continually expanding.

Clinic Staff

We also have 3 veterinary technicians on staff that combined have nearly 50 years of technical expertise. A skilled receptionist rounds out the crew and helps to keep things organized and running smoothly. They are a friendly , caring, and experienced group of folks who are truly dedicated in their desire to provide exceptional veterinary care to all animals in need.

Clinic Features

Technologically speaking, our clinic is very handsomely outfitted. We have 3 anesthetic machines, multiple pulse oximetry units, and an anesthetic/cardiac monitor that would rival most of those found in the human medical field. We have a large laboratory that gives us the ability to conduct, among other things, complete blood cell counts, bio-chemical profiles, and blood coagulation panels. The clinic itself is new, fresh, and spacious. In addition to our lab, it includes a surgical suite, a dental suite, an exam room, a recovery area, a waiting room, and more. We are so proud of our clinic and invite you to come in and take a tour.
