MGPS 2011 Raffle Quilt
"Greyhound Dreams"
This quilt is all cotton and includes batiks and muslin. It measures 59" by 66" and includes a sleeve for hanging. It is hand-appliqued, machine-pieced and hand- and machine-quilted. The fabrics are primarily earth and greyhound colors, with greens. The idea for the quilt began with the hearts, leftover from another project and too good to waste, and then developed border-by-border, to represent greyhound dreams – love, bunnies to chase, running, treats, and forever homes. The bunnies demanded tails of appliquéd yo-yos, and the doors required seed bead doorknobs so the dogs could get in.
Eleanor Greenwood's artistic and computer talents were called on to redesign the bunnies to fit their border. Eleanor also helped make the yo-yo bunny tails. The delightful label on this quilt was made by my ever-willing friend, Tracy Sherbrooke, and deserves special mention and a big thank you from me.
As always, it is a joy for me to do something I love – make quilts – and have it benefit something else I love – MGPS. I hope you like this quilt as much as I do (it was hard to give this one away!) and will show your support of MGPS by taking a chance on winning it.

MGPS 2009 Raffle Quilt Winner
We were so pleased and excited to open a package the other day to find we had won the quilt. It's so beautiful! It's especially meaningful to us because it has the picture of our sweet greyhound, Sugar, right in the center. The big decision now is to decide how best I want to display it.
The loving workmanship and countless hours involved in the making of the quilt by Peggy Voakes and Eleanor Greenwood is amazing and truly appreciated. I think of that every time I look at it.
We will cherish this wonderful work of art.
Sincerely grateful,
Ann and Everett White

To Everyone at the Maine Greyhound Placement Service:
Let it be known that I am the real winner of the beautiful Greyhound quilt that was a raffle drawing at Dewey Beach in October..... well, alright Dad bought the tickets and Mom put my name on one of them. They were at Dewey with Aunt Charlotte and cousin Jennie, a Greyhound.
No, I am not a Greyhound, but I believe I'm part Basenji and a wire hair terrier like an Airedale or some say a rough collie... really an All American Mixed Breed. However, I am a rescued dog. I was found in my parent's pole barn about 13 years ago and that is why my name is Honey Barnett. I live with a pit bull/yellow lab mix who was rescued as a 8 to 12 week old puppy from being thrown in a pit in South Philadelphia so other dogs could learn to fight and kill others. His name is Rocky Balboa. Can you guess why? We also live with a cat named Piebald, who is at least part Siamese, because she has mottled fur and talks a lot. A friend of a friend found her and her 4 kittens nailed in a crate in the woods while walking. So you see we are all rescues in this house.
I wish to thank Miss Eleanor and Miss Peggy for making the beautiful quilt. Mom won't let me near it, but I do get to see it at night hanging on the quilt rack at the foot of their bed.
Best to all,
Honey
